We built a mini hvdrauiic press and tested what it can destroy - clay figure, water balloon, egg shells and a stack of crackers. Hydraulic presses work because of one strange property of fluids: they can't be compressed. Apply pressure to an enclosed fluid and it transmits that force equally in every direction. That's Pascal's Law, and it's what makes these machines so powerful. Now, why is it so satisfying watching things get squished?
