Overgeneralization is a thinking trap where we take one negative experience and assume it will always happen. For example, if you fail one exam and think, “I’ll never succeed,” that’s overgeneralization. It turns a single event into a lifelong pattern, often leading to stress, anxiety, and low confidence. The reality is that one setback does not predict your future. Learning to see each situation separately helps you think more realistically and respond with greater resilience. Challenge the words “always,” “never,” and “everyone” when they appear in your thoughts.
