The eyes are always the first thing I look for. Long before a smile, a pose, or perfect light, the eyes tell the story. Confidence. Nerves. Determination. Joy. When I photograph athletes, I’m not just trying to capture what they look like. I’m trying to capture who they are in that moment. That’s why I spend so much time focused on the eyes.
