#FromTheArchives During debate on the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-OR) rose to oppose an amendment banning Pride flag displays at U.S. military facilities. Calling the measure “cruel and callous,” she placed a small Pride flag on the rostrum as she spoke. When colleagues objected, citing House rules against flag-waving, Dexter refused to back down. “I am not waving it, Mr. Speaker,” she replied, continuing her remarks. “This obsession with attacking, dehumanizing, and villainizing our LGBTQIA community is as sick as it is a waste of time,” Dexter said. “Trump is using the same tired playbook authoritarian regimes have used throughout history. He is dehumanizing our most vulnerable to divide us and distract us.”
