But before that, he helped change how millions of Americans understood HIV, AIDS, and the LGBTQ+ community. Born in Cuba and raised in the United States, Pedro was diagnosed with HIV as a teenager. He spoke in schools, community centers, and eventually on national television about what it was really like to live with HIV at a time when fear, misinformation, and stigma were everywhere.
