As Iowa Lakes Community College baseball player Jaxon Hermann sits in the living room of his parents’ home in Huxley, he pulls up the right leg of his sweatpants to show a dramatic scar. The wound covers his knee and stems from a deadly bus crash he and his teammates endured in February.
He has other scars on his elbow and back, all permanent marks from a tragic day that left many of his teammates hurt and one of them dead. Hermann was among the most severely injured.
The 20-year-old right-handed pitcher isn’t giving up on his dream of playing Division I baseball. After a near-death experience, Hermann is thankful and motivated to get back on the mound and pitch.
