June 4th is National Cheese Day! Like many of these “national holidays,” it gives us an excuse to highlight some of our cuts in our print shop. We however do not have an engraving of cheese. For today, Channey letterpress printed a hand-carved woodcut from the Lewis Winter Collection. This woodcut was made in the 1890s. Lewis Winter made a variety of farm related cuts as advertisement pieces in newspapers and magazines at his wood and photo engraving business at 627 J Street in Sacramento from 1888 to 1910. This print depicts a dairy cow.
