What’s the plan from the government to tackle the New World Screwworm? Seems like if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Last time they used around 500 million sterile flies per week to push them down into Panama. This time they’re doing the same except it’s going to take a bit. Even with several months to prepare these facilities don’t get built overnight but the good news is that good partnerships with Panama and Mexico have helped us get a good start on tackling this issue. It doesn’t stop at sterile flies though. The USDA awarded up to $100 million through the New World Screwworm Grand Challenge to fund innovative projects, technologies, and ideas to stop the spread of the parasite. #newworldscrewworm #agriculture #education #usda #shilohfarm
