One of the weirdest animals in Arizona isn’t a rattlesnake or a scorpion… it’s the horned lizard. 😳🦎 Often called a “horny toad,” this little desert reptile has a defense mechanism that sounds completely made up: when threatened by predators, it can shoot a small stream of blood from the corners of its eyes. Researchers say the blood contains chemicals that taste and smell foul to animals like coyotes and dogs, giving the lizard a chance to escape without having to fight. Most of the time, though, they’d rather avoid trouble altogether by staying perfectly still and blending into the desert floor. As crazy as it looks, horned lizards are harmless to people and play an important role in Arizona’s ecosystem. Have you ever actually seen one out in the wild? 👀🌵 Via Discovery Channel #ArizonaLife #PhoenixAZ #DesertLife #Wildlife #OnlyInArizona
