Arizona really had to remind everyone that blue “recycling” bags… aren’t actually recyclable here 😭♻️
Arizona’s Attorney General reached a settlement with Reynolds Consumer Products, the parent company of Hefty, after officials said the company’s clear blue “recycling” trash bags were misleading shoppers.
The state argued the bags were marketed as ideal for recyclables, even though the bags themselves are not recyclable in many Arizona facilities, including Phoenix. Officials say plastic bags can also jam up recycling equipment and make it harder for items inside to actually get processed.
As part of the settlement, Reynolds must change its packaging, add clearer labels saying the bags are not recyclable, and pay more than $200,000 in restitution, state payments, and legal costs.
Did you know these bags weren’t recyclable in Arizona?
