If you havenโt visited the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ottawa, I recommend that you do. Itโs such a gem in our beautiful capital city! โจ
I took a guided tour and learned many interesting things about Ottawaโs main church.
Fun facts:
๐ It was built in 1841, and it is the first Catholic church built in Ottawa.
๐ It was made of stone and wood. The big columns that look like marble are actually wood.
๐ It has two historic organs that together have over 4,000 pipes of different sizes, distributed throughout the building so their sound can be heard everywhere.
๐ The main altar was made by several French-Canadian craftsmen and sculptors, many of whom also worked on the ornamentation of the Parliament Buildings.
Good to know:
๐ Guided tours are $10 and are offered every day.
๐ The cathedral is open daily and can be visited Mondays to Fridays from 9 am to 6 pm, and weekends from 9am to 7pm.
๐ Admission is free.
A beautiful piece of history right in the heart of Ottawa! โจ
