In the end the lens hood did protect it and just popped off alongside whatever the piece is that holds that and the lens cap in place. So it actually still works to take photos but I had to tape it together🙏🏼 Dropped it off today for repairs and will have to wait for @sony to work some magic. If this doesn’t persuade you to carry a second body and lens idk what will🤣 Has your camera ever been hit straight on by a ball?
