When ground broke in 2015, Resorts World was sold as “The Forbidden City,” an immersive experience of Chinese culture meant to target Asian high-rollers. That never happened. In 2016–2017, due to geopolitical shifts, Genting decided to soften the theming to avoid over-segregating the resort’s demographic appeal.
