#Repost american_immigrant_stories He was a Mexican immigrant working in the fields when federal agents picked him up in 1917. They told him he wasn’t subject to the draft. He was free to go back to Mexico. He volunteered anyway. Private Marcelino Serna became the most decorated WWI soldier in Texas history. He single-handedly killed 26 enemy soldiers, captured 24 more, and was personally awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by General Pershing. He never got the Medal of Honor. His commanding officer said he was “just a buck private” who couldn’t write English well enough. He came home and went to work at a packing plant. He tended his flower garden. He almost never talked about the war. His name was Marcelino Serna. And most Americans have never heard of him.🎖️ ⬇️ Share this so history remembers him. #MarcelinoSerna #MexicanAmericanHistory #LatinoHistory #ForgottenHistory
