For older adults in the LGBTQ+ community, finding a chosen family is often a recent experience. Having grown up in less accepting times, many people did not have the chance to socialize and bond with other queer and trans folks in their youth. We believe it is never too late to find family, connection, support, and kinship. West of 50 is a place to do exactly that.⁠ ⁠ Serving more than 1,300 LGBTQ+ individuals over the age of 50 each year, West of 50 fosters social connection, provides workshops on healthy living and creative aging, holds lecture series about LGBTQ+ history, and hosts flagship events like the Tea Dance, the Thankful 4U Celebration, and the Holiday Art Show that celebrate the generation that has paved the way to more acceptance of our community today 💗🏳️‍🌈⁠ ⁠ Supporting those who lived our history is just as important as nurturing those who will live our future.
