Marquette alumnus, Dave Gorman, founder of Bikes for Lesotho, partners with Tumi’s Bicycle Shop, just outside the kingdom’s capital city of Maseru, to deliver preloved bikes to eager Lesotho youth. 🚲
Since 2013, Bikes For Lesotho, an organization launched by Gorman, has shipped 7,000 used bikes to Lesotho, collaborating with Chicago’s nonprofit Working Bikes. Suburban Chicago residents have donated two-thirds of them.
While serving in Lesotho with the Peace Corps on a project that brought spring water from the surrounding mountains to local residents, Gorman noticed something missing: bicycles. As a seasoned cyclist, he understood the freedom, opportunity and joy that a bike can provide—and that observation sparked what would become his mission.
