I drove home from that appointment and sat in the car for ten minutes. She’d given us a plan. It was logical. It made sense on paper. And I knew - in the way you just know - that it was going to make things worse. Not because she was a bad psychologist. Because she was solving the wrong problem. She was trying to remove the incentive to stay home. But my daughter wasn’t staying home because home was nice. She was staying home because something in her body had decided school wasn’t safe. And no amount of discomfort at home was going to override that signal. When a child is already struggling with school refusal, the last thing they need is to lose their safe space at home too. Because then nowhere feels good. Nowhere feels safe. You cannot logic, punish, or withdraw your way out of an alarm state. I didn’t have the words for it then. I do now. 🍒 Comment TOOLKIT and I’ll send you what actually worked. - Jules ♥️ #schoolrefusal #schoolanxiety #teenanxiety #teenmentalhealt...
