The monks were walking through Dayton, Texas, last month when a traffic collision hospitalized two, including Bhante Dam Phommasan. The Walk for Peace confirmed he had surgery to remove the leg on Wednesday. The surgery was successful, and he was recovering by Wednesday afternoon. The monks are part of a team planning to walk more than 2,000 miles over the course of 110 days through 10 states for what is called their “Walk for Peace.” They began journeying from Fort Worth on Oct. 26 and made a stop in Houston in mid-November.
