Several of Houston’s downtown streets remained closed on Tuesday as crews were working to board up windows damaged by the deadly derecho that passed through the area last week. About five downtown intersections were fenced off on Tuesday. Workers roamed the streets while shattered glass remained in blocked sidewalks and roads. A survey of 18 downtown high-rise buildings in the areas with the most damage showed 3,250 damaged windows, downed trees and debris cleared from more than 200 damaged trees. There has not yet been a timeline to detail when cleanup efforts will be complete, but road closures will continue to remain in place until the end of the week, according to the Downtown Houston Management District. Outside of the area closed for restoration work, downtown restaurants, bars, parks and entertainment venues are fully operational.
