A handful of students Wednesday morning were studying for finals at Rice University on chairs and picnic blankets surrounded by Palestinian flags. Others were listening to a presentation from a 92-year-old Rice alumni and her daughter who visited Jerusalem in 2019. The quiet event at Rice University, as well as some organizing at the University of Houston, were part of larger nationwide efforts involving students in pro-Palestinian protests this week against the current war in Gaza. More than 100 students from Columbia University have been arrested for participating in Pro-Palestinian protests since last week, and nearly 50 were arrested at Yale on Monday. Arrests have also taken place at the University of Texas. There were no such confrontations at either of the Houston universities. But some involved say they still feel the tension.
