Looking for your next travel destination? Mayor Sylvester Turner and Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco kicked off Houston’s first travel festival at George R. Brown Convention Center Friday morning with the goal to bring the two travel industries together. Several travel agencies and airlines in attendance will be offering special deals and discounts to popular travel destinations like Cancun and Mexico City starting this Friday through Sunday. Torruco says Houston is one of the U.S. cities with the most flights to Mexico and this event will further strengthen the relationship between the two. “The tourist flow from Houston has increased by a very significant amount,” Torruco said. “Also, the new flights from different points of Mexico are increasing and that’s for the benefit of our economy from both sides.” According to Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Mexico received 13.1 million tourists by air from the U.S. in 2022, a 23.7% increase from 2019.
