A Blue Alert issued by the Department of Public Safety on Wednesday night lead to a spike in searches for the term. Texas has a total of eight standardized public safety advisories, including Aber, Silver, Active Shooter and Blue Alerts. Blue Alerts are "designed to speed the apprehension of violent criminals who kill or seriously wound local, state or federal law enforcement officers," according to the state's DPS.
