The Houston National Weather Service forecast office has issued 47 severe thunderstorm warnings this month across the region, compared to two last year. The number of storms is unusual, and so is the severity for this time of year. Matt Lanza, a meteorologist with Space City Weather, said the extreme heat is partially to blame. "The air becomes very unstable because of how hot it is. If you just add a little spark to that, a couple of disturbances coming through and thunderstorms from north Texas...they just blow up," Lanza said. Although he doesn't expect more storms in the region this month, the extreme heat will likely stay until at least Saturday. 📸: Photo courtesy of Woodlands Fire Department #severeheat #severeweather #spacecityweather
