Galveston is considered the birthplace of
#Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived on the island to read Order No. 3, freeing 250,000 people in Texas from slavery. Reedy Chapel was the first place enslaved people went after learning of their freedom.
The church now attracts thousands during Juneteenth to learn of its history.
