Thirty years ago, projectrowhouses began when artist Rick Lowe saw potential in a row of abandoned shotgun-style homes on Holman Street.
He gathered six other artists to transform the houses into art installations, inspired by the concept of social sculpture espoused by German artist Joseph Beuys.
Project Row Houses is more than a museum. It functions as a community development corporation that facilitates affordable housing for local residents and commercial leases to many iconic businesses in the Third Ward.
