HARRIET TUBMAN Born a Slave. Became a Legend. Born into slavery in Maryland around 1822, Harriet Tubman escaped to freedom in 1849. But freedom for herself was not enough. Rather than staying safe, she repeatedly returned to slave states, risking her life to guide dozens of enslaved men, women, and children to freedom through the Underground Railroad. She was never captured and never lost a passenger. During the Civil War, she served as a scout, spy, nurse, and military leader for the Union Army, becoming one of the first women in American history to lead an armed military operation. Harriet Tubman dedicated her life to freedom, courage, and justice. Her actions helped change the lives of countless people and left a lasting mark on history. "Every great dream begins with a dreamer." A woman who escaped slavery and returned to fight for others. #HarrietTubman #BlackHistory #BlackExcellence #HistoryMatters #freedomfighter
