Let's keep it real. Violence in our communities doesn't just hurt the victims and their families,it also affects how others perceive us. Fair or unfair, people often form opinions based on what they repeatedly see in the news, on social media, and in their neighborhoods. Thousands of Black people are killed by other Black people every year, yet many of those deaths receive little public attention, no large-scale protests, and no sustained national conversation. If we're serious about protecting Black lives, then the conversation can't start and stop based on who committed the crime. A life lost is a life lost. We should be able to demand accountability from everyone while also confronting the problems that are hurting our own communities. Addressing violence, strengthening families, and creating better opportunities for the next generation should be part of that discussion too.
