Multiple counties in Texas have been placed under quarantine after a potentially deadly parasite capable of infecting both animals and humans crossed the U.S. border and began spreading through the South. The Texas Animal Health Commission has imposed an animal quarantine in parts of La Salle, Uvalde, Webb, and Zavala counties following the recent spread of the New World screwworm. Over the past week, officials have confirmed four cases in livestock in Texas. An additional case was reported in a dog in New Mexico.
