U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed federal housing regulator Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence, placing a close political ally in charge of the U.S. intelligence community.
Pulte, 38, currently leads the federal housing finance regulator and has no previous national security experience. He succeeds Tulsi Gabbard, who is departing the role.
The appointment comes amid heightened global tensions and ongoing conflicts involving U.S. interests overseas.
