My mom once told me when we moved to the U.S., “In New York, you’ll have so many more opportunities.” I loved Colombia and didn’t want to leave, but she believed in something I couldn’t see yet.
We used to watch Disney movies together, and at the end she would always remind me: “See? She went after her dreams and made it happen.”
This morning, when I received this feature with NYC Tourism, all I could think was: thank you, mom.
From watching Colombia in the 2016 Copa América at MetLife Stadium to building SportsGirlNYC, my journey has been about finding my voice in a city that gave me space to grow and using it to amplify others who often go unheard.
New York really is the best. It’s where I found my voice, and where I continue to build something rooted in culture, community, and sports.
