Some stories stay with you long after you leave. In the last week of May, we travelled across Lebanon with matw_projectuk through Palestinian refugee camps, Syrian refugee camps near the border, displacement shelters in the Bekaa, and orphanage projects near Tripoli. What stayed with me most wasn’t only the scale of the crisis, but how long people have been forced to live inside it. Families displaced for generations. Families forced to flee again. Children growing up around uncertainty as if it were normal life. My expedience in humanitarian work started in Afghanistan during Covid in 2020. Since then, Afghanistan has shown me multiple humanitarian crises displacement, poverty, conflict, isolation, earthquakes, and families forced to start again. #Lebanon was my first humanitarian deployment outside Afghanistan.
