One of the most wholesome stories in hip-hop: J. Cole and his former landlord Mohammad 🙏❤️ Before signing his first major record deal, J. Cole lived in a Queens townhouse owned by Mohammad. During that struggling period, Mohammad treated him like family and allowed him to delay rent payments so he could focus on building his music career. After achieving success, Cole repaid everything he owed, including any late fees, and has stayed in touch, continuing to visit Mohammad to this day. Cole even referenced this chapter in his song “Power Trip,” rapping: Even back when I was up there in Mohammad crib, payin’ $1,700 for the rent, money well spent… Real recognize real. This kind of loyalty and gratitude is beautiful. Stories like this are why J. Cole gets so much respect. ✍️: kindofconsistent
