Your favorite rapper is a character. And the industry wrote the script. We used to measure greatness by how many people walked into a store and spent their last $20 on your album. Now we count streams from people who left a playlist on while they slept. Eminem sold 115 million physical CDs. That was intention. That was real. 1,500 streams = 1 album sale today. We changed the definition of greatness and never told anybody. And the artists? Most of them don’t even know who they are outside the character anymore.
