On Portugal Day, we're sharing files from the records of former City Councillor Mario Silva. During his three terms on Council, Silva was a staunch advocate for Toronto's Portuguese community, assisting his constituents with immigration issues, staging citizenship drives, lobbying for continued in-house Portuguese translation at City Hall, establishing or enhancing local monuments to Portuguese immigrants, establishing connections with municipal governments in Portugal, and raising awareness of international issues of concern to Portuguese Canadians.
