Firearms are now the leading cause of childhood death in the U.S., with more than 2,500 children dying each year from gun-related injuries. As one of just seven Level I pediatric trauma centers in California, our Oakland ER witnesses this tragic epidemic firsthand. We marked #WearOrangeDay this year to help bring awareness to the problem and provide support for families who have lost loved ones to gun violence. Our Hospital-Based Pediatric Violence Intervention Program offers a range of services to help survivors of gun violence and their families. If you have a gun in your home and need a gun lock, come to our Oakland ER and simply ask for one. No questions asked. Together we can help keep our children safe.
