Minnesota had 66 of the thousands of Carnegie-funded libraries built around the world in the early 1900s. In the Twin Cities, Minneapolis had four public libraries built with these grants. St. Paul had three public libraries and one academic library built. Of the seven public Carnegie libraries in the Twin Cities, five still operate as public libraries today.
