USA TODAY’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards for 2025 named the Devil’s Kettle Trail in Judge C.R. Magney State Park in Hovland, MN as the number one hiking trail in the country! This is a special trail as the key feature is a split waterfall with one side of the falls going into a kettle. For years it was a mystery where the water went from the kettle. In 2017, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) studied the falls and hydrologists confirmed that the same volume of water existed above and below the falls, so the water from the Devil’s Kettle likely rejoins the stream below the falls. The 2-mile round-trip hike has nearly 200 wooden steps to climb so it’s a moderate hike. It’s nice scenery throughout in the Superior National Forest. #donorthmn #exploremn #onlyinmn #exploreminnesota #onlyinminnesota #northshoremn #mnsummer #grandmarais #grandmaraismn #superiornationalforest
