She wanted to explore her natural texture, but she’d never had a haircut designed for it.
Here’s what most people don’t realize: when you’ve never worn your texture, your stylist is going in blind. We don’t know exactly how your hair will move, where it’ll spring up, or how the curl pattern shifts throughout.
So I approached this intentionally.
We preserved her length as much as we could , softened the framing around her face, added targeted layers in the back to support the waves in her hair and kept the bangs longer so we can build from here.
But the haircut was only part of it.
I walked her through how to encourage her texture, how curl has memory, and how the more she embraces it, the more it’ll work with her over time. I told her there will be struggle days where it doesn’t feel its best — and that’s normal.
