They are expertly adapted to warm climates, utilizing unique pink skin patches above their eyes to cool down in the sun 🐧☀️ African penguins can also torpedo through the water at up to 12 mph (around 19 km/h), easily outpacing the fastest human swimmers. They can also hold their breath for up to 2.5 minutes while hunting for sardines and anchovie. Sadly, the African Penguin is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
