The Minnesota Republican Party held a public moment of silence for Derek Chauvin at their state convention. And the families of police brutality victims called them out. Chauvin has been in prison since 2021 for the murder of George Floyd — a killing the world watched on video for nine minutes. This weekend, instead of honoring fallen soldiers or children lost to violence, Minnesota Republicans chose to honor him. George Floyd’s girlfriend Courteney Ross said it plainly: “You took precious time to purposefully hurt everyone who loved Floyd. And every other family who has lost a loved one to the police.” Valerie Castile — whose son Philando was shot and killed by Minnesota police in 2016 — called it “the most hurtful thing you can do.” She added: “You give a moment of silence to a murderer?
