As we approach our 40th anniversary, we’ve been shining a spotlight on the story of our organisation - and few things are more recognisable than our logo, whose original concept has remained at the heart of EUMETSAT’s identity for 40 years. The story began close to home. In 1987, graphic design students from Hochschule Darmstadt were invited to design the organisation’s first logo. Out of 38 submissions, the winning concept by Ralf Daniel captured the idea of Meteosat scanning the Earth, while subtly incorporating the letter “E”. Over the decades, the logo has been reviewed and refined, with discussions even reaching Council level. Yet the original concept remained strong enough to endure. From a local student competition to a globally recognised symbol of Europe’s meteorological satellite organisation, the EUMETSAT logo has evolved without losing its identity. Here you can see how evolution of the EUMETSAT logo over the years! 🛰️ #EUMETSAT40
