Never underestimate the power of feeling seen and safe. drquanitacrable is a master surgeon, but what stood out most to me wasn’t her impressive credentials or the 1,000+ surgeries she’s performed. It was the way she made me feel seen, heard, and involved in my care. She listened to my symptoms, respected my concerns, and partnered with me on a plan instead of talking at me. That level of care is something I’ll never forget . Being cared for by a Black surgical team brought a level of comfort I can’t fully put into words. In one of the most vulnerable moments of my life, there was something deeply comforting about being cared for by people who looked like me, understood me, and made me feel seen beyond my chart.
