If you live in Georgia, a clinic near you may be promising treatments that traditional medicine can’t fix. They offer stem cell therapy, IV treatments and other alternative procedures. The credentials look legit. The testimonials sound convincing. But, an AJC investigation found many of these clinics are selling treatments that go against accepted science — and patients are paying thousands for care that may be unproven or unsafe. We also found doctors working outside their training, clinics without proper oversight and even unlicensed people presenting themselves as physicians. Meanwhile, Georgia’s medical board rarely takes action, leaving this fast-growing industry with little accountability.
