In a retrospective study of 1,758 patients evaluated for DBS candidacy at the UF Norman Fixel Institute between 2009 and 2024, researchers examined why some patients were not approved for surgery. The findings revealed that cognitive concerns were the leading reason patients were denied or delayed for DBS, followed by unrealistic expectations for surgery and psychiatric concerns.
