Many people mistakenly think the electron somehow "knows" it is being watched. In reality, observation requires physical interaction with detectors, which disturbs the particle and destroys the interference pattern. It is the measurement itself, not human awareness, that changes the outcome. The famous double slit experiment showed that particles such as electrons and photons can also behave like waves. Passing through two slits creates an interference pattern, as if each particle spreads out and travels through both openings. Source: Feynman, Richard P., Robert B. Leighton, and Matthew Sands.
