The Sahara Desert is far more colorful than most people imagine. Its sands range from pale white and golden yellow to orange, pink, red, brown, and even black. These striking shades come from different minerals and rock sources. Iron oxides create reddish and orange tones, quartz produces lighter colors, while volcanic materials and darker minerals give rise to black sands.
