Large study published in JAMA Network Open found that an AI system analyzing mammograms gave higher scores to breasts that later developed cancer, even 4–6 years before diagnosis. This means AI may detect subtle patterns associated with future cancer risk years before doctors would normally find a tumor. Other studies in Nature Medicine and the Swedish MASAI trial have shown that AI-assisted mammography improves cancer detection rates and can identify cancers earlier than standard screening alone.
