Day 1 of the mdranglers 51st Halibut Derby was a blast! We ended up with 83 fish on the clicker, most on a 6" bait or bigger. We did NOT fish clean today and lost virtually all our big bites. Just pulling the hook halfway to the boat despite good mechanics, the best gear and preparation. Fishing I tell ya... We ended up with 26.5lbs and change for our best 5 of the ones we did land. So we are going to go for a BIG bag tomorrow. The good news is we're still having a blast in an awesome event I've been reading about my whole life. Big shoutout to the staff and the TD dstewartfishing for a great and smooth day 1 experience.
