Pakistan-born billionaire Shahid Khan immigrated to the U.S. nearly 60 years ago and made his initial fortune making one-piece bumpers for cars and trucks.⁣ ⁣ Khan, whose firm, Flex-N-Gate, makes hundreds of millions of auto parts every year in 72 factories, including 32 in the U.S., says the share of immigrants in his urban and suburban factories is nearly 30%, with the tally reaching almost 70% in one factory in Texas. ⁣ ⁣ When he opened his $320 million factory in Detroit in 2018, there weren’t enough locals to fill the jobs.
