One thing I don’t think people talk about enough in self-concept work is how uncomfortable it can be when it’s actually working.
We spend so much time focused on becoming the next version of ourselves that we forget there is often a period where the old version is falling away before the new one feels fully embodied.
You stop relating to old patterns.
Old dreams don’t fit quite the same.
Certain relationships, environments, habits, and identities start feeling restrictive.
But the new life isn’t fully here yet either.
It’s easy to mistake this space for failure, being lost, or “going backwards.”
In my experience, it’s often none of the above.
It’s a threshold.
A season that asks for trust.
Because even though you may not know exactly where you’re going, you do know that you no longer belong where you’ve been.
Sometimes growth means grieving what’s no longer aligned and allowing yourself to become unfamiliar before you become comfortable again.
